ABSTRACT
Organization may put the responsibility of store accountability on individual stock keeper or manager for the stock held in their charge. As a result of this, most organization rely on them to control store accounting. Stores accounting and safety is one of the important areas of concern in stores management as a result of the need to protect the company’s huge investment is stock. This study was undertaken to examine the need for store accounting. The sample size comprises of one (1) the Head of stores, two (2) middle management and two (2) staff from the department. Various data concerning effective stores management was reviewed during the study at the Store Department of Unama Paper mill Nigeria. The data was obtained through questionnaire, personal interview, observation and informal communication. The study found out that, at Unama Paper mill Nigeria, even though the right calibers of personnel were found, they reiterated that; more can be done to make the stores department very efficient.
